Member Sections Presentation Script
Presentation of Member Sections
The future design of Member Sections operates on a simple tenant: showcase value while giving the user actionable steps to access that value.
The design decisions to follow are to build the foundation of the experience.
Member sections are an exclusive space tailored to capture resources, tools, and opportunities to engage in mentoring and/or gain pathways to leadership.
To support this, we established a new dynamic and personalized onboarding process to meet users where they are rather than giving them instructions that cover what could be a multiple-week ordeal to gain access. At every step, we want to showcase to users what they are missing out on. We intend to reward the users by opening up specialized areas in Docmatter and curating exclusive content behind the access walls.
Let's dive into some of the details. When talking about onboarding, we want to consider 4 user states:
- LOGGED OUT
- NOT A MEMBER OF THE COLLEGE
- A MEMBER WHO DOESN'T HAVE ACCESS TO THE SECTION
- A USER WITH FULL ACCESS.
These personalization hooks give us the flexibility to craft the experience, allowing for better instructions and selling tactics.
Only users of a specific state are shown the next steps in their personalized journey. This allows us to craft the upsell and instructions to Membership for example or the Member Section when the time is appropriate.
Now that the onboarding process has become simplified in messaging and action, we can discuss how our users are often part of more than one section. To reduce mental friction when moving from one section to another, we want to strongly enforce consistency. This consistency can been seen in the design pattern, the layouts and more importantly the labels and page structures.
This will allow our multifaceted members to experience an organized environment so they can focus on the content rather than where it was labeled or placed. An added benefit is that when new features are rolled out, they are easier to discover.
Personalization will not be added to just the main page. The content zones of sections will also showcase content at different levels keyed to the user's access. This can showcase the quality of materials and enforce a desire to gain full access to this quality content.
